Aaron's sons Nadab and Abihu put coals of fire in their incense burners and sprinkled incense over them. In this way, they disobeyed the Lord by burning before him the wrong kind of fire, different than he had commanded. So fire blazed forth from the Lord's presence and burned them up, and they died there before the Lord. Then Moses said to Aaron, "This is what the Lord meant when he said, ‘I will display my holiness through those who come near me. I will display my glory before all the people.'" And Aaron was silent. Leviticus 10:1-3 (New Living Translation NLT)
The bible records in Romans 5:5 that the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts by the Power of God's spirit. We constantly talk about the love of God as we should, but so often we over look the fact that this same God is a God of justice.
Surely you wouldn't do such a thing, destroying the righteous along with the wicked. Why, you would be treating the righteous and the wicked exactly the same! Surely you wouldn't do that! Should not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?" (Genesis 18:25 NLT). How can a God who gave His son Jesus on the cross be a God of wrath? Very simple. "God is a jealous God, this may sound crude to some, but we can't sleep with the world and be a Christian too, can't do it. Vengeance is mine saith the Lord. Nahum 1:2 says He reserves wrath for His enemies. And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don't know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. (2 Thessalonians 1:7,8 NLT).
Don't worry God doesn't reveal His wrath when He just get's mad, nor does it consist of Him losing self-control. God's wrath means giving people what they've ask for, we can't just treat God any old way and get away with it. For example in Genesis 3:24, it was His wrath that drove Adam and Eve from the garden and a flaming sword kept them from the tree of life.
Plain and simple God's wrath is to give you what you want. Here's the scriptural antidote to God's wrath. "Much more then, having been justified by His blood, so we shall be saved from wrath through Him" (Romans 5:9). Praise God that the blood of Jesus will never lose it's power, I'm redeemed and give the glory to God. God help us to stay sweet in our souls and look to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.
