I decided to become an astrophysicist at the age of eight. I read all the physics and astronomy books in the children’s section of my library. My family supported my voracious appetite for knowledge. My teachers assigned me lots of extra-curricular projects in the social sciences, which eventually sparked my spiritual quest. In my last year of high school, I studied the Thirty Years’ War for one extra project. I wondered why the Catholics and Protestants shed so much blood over trivial doctrine. I posed tough questions to my teacher, who sent me off to the library to read books on comparative religions. Read More...

The Goal Of My Life. It was a real struggle for me to become a Christian for a number of reasons. I had always prided myself in being a self-made man. I was used to being in control of my life. I was also afraid of what my friends would think. I looked at Christianity’s ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ and thought that it was so narrow. Read More...

Tunnel Vision. In 1971, the troubles in Northern Ireland were increasingly becoming a danger to me and to my six children. We listened to horror stories of suffering every day on the radio. Our personal horror story came the night I was attacked by two gunmen. One beat me while asking me questions about someone’s whereabouts. Although I wasn’t a Christian, I silently prayed for God to help me. Read More...

waynedurden.jpgYou shall take some of the blood of the bull and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger, and pour all the blood beside the base of the altar (Exodus 29:12). The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple (Psalm. 119:130).

It can never be said enough, God's Word is a "lamp to our feet a light to our path." The brazen altar had horns on its four corners. These horns represent strength and power according to the following scriptures; Dan. 8:5,9; Deut. 33:17; Joshua 6:4,5 and 1 Sam. 2:1,13.

These horns point in a symbolic fashion to Christ and are found in the expression "horn of salvation," meaning a salvation of strength (Luke 1:69). Please understand that our salvation is based on the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is solid, firm, and as a matter of fact it can never be defeated.  We may deny it, but the salvation plan of God will never be defeated.

In Romans 1:16, Paul made this powerful statement, "for I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ".  I say "wow," the gospel message of the shed blood of Jesus Christ is heaven's atomic power to those who love and serve our Lord. If there was no death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ there is no salvation plan and each of us would be doomed to a devil's hell. A dead Christ cannot save anybody, but a living Christ that has conquered death, hell, and the grave will save all people that call upon his name!  Praise God, because He lives we live, and we can face anything that comes our way.

Love Each Of You, Pastor Durden
