I decided to become an astrophysicist at the age of eight. I read all the physics and astronomy books in the children’s section of my library. My family supported my voracious appetite for knowledge. My teachers assigned me lots of extra-curricular projects in the social sciences, which eventually sparked my spiritual quest. In my last year of high school, I studied the Thirty Years’ War for one extra project. I wondered why the Catholics and Protestants shed so much blood over trivial doctrine. I posed tough questions to my teacher, who sent me off to the library to read books on comparative religions. Read More...

Tunnel Vision. In 1971, the troubles in Northern Ireland were increasingly becoming a danger to me and to my six children. We listened to horror stories of suffering every day on the radio. Our personal horror story came the night I was attacked by two gunmen. One beat me while asking me questions about someone’s whereabouts. Although I wasn’t a Christian, I silently prayed for God to help me. Read More...

Associate Pastor Wayne DurdenSo he answered and said to me: “ This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘ Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts ( Zechariah 4:6). For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call (Acts 2:39).

The gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of power. It was this power, through the ministry of the word that was either taught or preached to us and the Holy Ghost convicted us of our sin and we repented. Praise God for His power!

We must not fear the power of God, because His power is consistent with His holy character. As we already know He's all powerful, but He's also infinitely love, mercy, and justice. God doesn't do things haphazardly. He is wisdom is personfied. Neither does He do evil because He is the epitomey of goodness.

We talk about blue Monday but this doesn't happen to God. He is not like you and me, He's God. We want power but don't want the character of God that would control that power. We would love to have what God has without being what God is. Read (John 13:12) our Lord here shows or demonstrates His power by bowing and washing His disciples feet. It has been said, "His was great power with a towel on His arm," Wow!  Read (1 Corinthians 1:18) to those who are perishing in sin preaching is foolish.  Oh!  Praise God for His power and His word.

Together with Christ, Pastor Durden
