I decided to become an astrophysicist at the age of eight. I read all the physics and astronomy books in the children’s section of my library. My family supported my voracious appetite for knowledge. My teachers assigned me lots of extra-curricular projects in the social sciences, which eventually sparked my spiritual quest. In my last year of high school, I studied the Thirty Years’ War for one extra project. I wondered why the Catholics and Protestants shed so much blood over trivial doctrine. I posed tough questions to my teacher, who sent me off to the library to read books on comparative religions. Read More...

Tunnel Vision. In 1971, the troubles in Northern Ireland were increasingly becoming a danger to me and to my six children. We listened to horror stories of suffering every day on the radio. Our personal horror story came the night I was attacked by two gunmen. One beat me while asking me questions about someone’s whereabouts. Although I wasn’t a Christian, I silently prayed for God to help me. Read More...

Associate Pastor Wayne Durden“Is not My word like a fire?” says the LORD,  "And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?" Jeremiah 23:29.  Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.  Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalms 119:89 & 105

May I say as we begin our thought today on the power of the word of God, that God’s word has been through the flood and through the fire. It has been laughed at, mocked, ridiculed, but it still stands the test of time.  In finality it’s the only thing ultimately we can stand on.

The design of the Roman soldier was for attacking their enemy not for defense. Our sword is the word of God, note! (Ephesians 6:17). It is a lamp unto our feet, a light to our path.  Hebrews 4:12  declares “For the word of God is quick (alive) and powerful and sharper than any two-edge sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart,” Wow! isn’t that great. Jesus himself often used the word of God to combat and overcome Satan. (Read Matthew 4:1-11)

As we look at God’s word we will discover Satan did not question the authority of God’s word, but he was a master at twisting the word to try and deceive us, note! (John 10:10).  If Satan can use this tactic against us make no mistake about it, he will do it and if we’re not careful he will cause us to doubt and question God’s word. Never forget doubt will kill faith and faith will defeat doubt, I’m an overcomer by God’s word, aren’t you, (Romans 8:37)?  As we read and study God’s word the stronger we will become and  be able to win this spiritual battle we are in.  I say let’s stand on God’s word.

Together In Christ,
