Monroe Church of God

I've been thinking I would like to go to church, but I don't know anyone.

I don't know what to do, where to go, what to expect when I get there.  It's hard and it feels awkward to do anything for the first few times. Here are some suggestions:

Have you noticed a church near you or one you drive by often? If not, check the phone book. Call the church office. You should find a friendly voice to talk to. (Some churches don't have a full-time staff. If no ones there leave a message so they can get back to you.)

If you'd like, ask to be matched up with someone in the church, any of us would love to meet you even before you attend. That way, you will know someone before you come!

Also, we could pick you up Sunday morning, meet you for breakfast or coffee before church or at least meet you in the parking lot to show you where to go and what to do.

Stop by a church on a weekday and ask someone to show you around so the place doesn't feel so foreign when you come on Sunday.

Just show up. Check out when the worship service starts. Many churches have greeters to help you as you enter the sanctuary. If you'd like, ask them to introduce you to someone you can sit with.

Associate Pastor Wayne DurdenIf My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14. Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. 2 Chronicles 20:22

Wow!  What a message, the list is absolutely endless what God has done for us and the tools He's made available for us to use in our Christian walk.  You may disagree with what I'm about to say, but personally I'm convinced the most important tool we have among many is the privilege to Pray.

Prayer coupled with our Praise to God is more than sufficient.  In Ephesians chapter six you have recorded a description of the armor of God. When reading these scriptures we will discover a powerful weapon of attack available to us in our spiritual warfare.  You have heard it preached, I've preached it, there's no limit to what can be accomplished if God's people will only pray.

Prayer pulls down the strong hold the enemy uses against us.  You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out, a "prayerless christian is a powerless one," I've said it for years, "Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep, is not good enough, we've got to ring the prayer bells of heaven, God helps us."  There's a great biblical truth recorded in Acts chapter 12, Herod is vexing  the church, even to the point of murder. Peter is imprisoned, but note verse 5, oh! what a scripture. "But prayer was made of the church (who makes up the church, people) unto God without ceasing for Peter" (one of their's).  What happened, they (the church) prayed down an angel and God miracleously delivered Peter, Praise God!

Oh! God help us, the church to pray until something happens.  In Psalm 8:2 the bible also lets us know that praise is also a powerful weapon available to Christians.  Couple prayer and praise together and you have a powerful arsenal.  Read 2 Chron. Chapter 20 and you'll discover the truth of prayer and praise.  We have much to praise Him for.

Much Love to You! Pastor Durden
