I've been thinking I would like to go to church, but I don't know anyone.
I don't know what to do, where to go, what to expect when I get there. It's hard and it feels awkward to do anything for the first few times. Here are some suggestions:
Have you noticed a church near you or one you drive by often? If not, check the phone book. Call the church office. You should find a friendly voice to talk to. (Some churches don't have a full-time staff. If no ones there leave a message so they can get back to you.)
If you'd like, ask to be matched up with someone in the church, any of us would love to meet you even before you attend. That way, you will know someone before you come!
Also, we could pick you up Sunday morning, meet you for breakfast or coffee before church or at least meet you in the parking lot to show you where to go and what to do.
Stop by a church on a weekday and ask someone to show you around so the place doesn't feel so foreign when you come on Sunday.
Just show up. Check out when the worship service starts. Many churches have greeters to help you as you enter the sanctuary. If you'd like, ask them to introduce you to someone you can sit with.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.(John 10:10).And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour. (Acts 16:18)
I believe it was years ago that Flip Wilson coined the phrase “The devil made me do it.” It is a dangerous thing to play around with Satan. People today take so lightly Satan as if he was just a toy. I remind us that he is real and he wants to kill, steal, and destroy God’s people.
Let’s note today some biblical facts about our enemy Satan. Note a biblical truth that may shock you, Jesus spent a lot of His time casting out “unclean spirits” which are demons, out of people. (Luke 9:1) Jesus sent out His disiples and gave them power over demon spirits, in (Mark 16:17) Jesus said signs would follow them that believe, in His name they would cast out demons. So, I ask us a question, if Jesus did it and His disciples, why do you suppose that very rarely do you hear of this in the 21st century?
In (2 Timothy. 3:5) we discover a very disturbing scripture, that in the last days, men would have a form of godliness but deny the real power of God, I say God have mercy on us. My question to us today is this, are we watching the birth of the apostate church, think about it, we have the acceptance of gay bishops, pedophile priests, and denials every where that God’s word is true. The apostate church is the church that the anti-christ will rule. We must not deny the fact that Satan and demon spirits are real today and at work in our world. The true church of Jesus Christ is at war with our enemy Satan, the flesh and the world. Let’s stand up and be counted for our God and put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20).
