I've been thinking I would like to go to church, but I don't know anyone.
I don't know what to do, where to go, what to expect when I get there. It's hard and it feels awkward to do anything for the first few times. Here are some suggestions:
Have you noticed a church near you or one you drive by often? If not, check the phone book. Call the church office. You should find a friendly voice to talk to. (Some churches don't have a full-time staff. If no ones there leave a message so they can get back to you.)
If you'd like, ask to be matched up with someone in the church, any of us would love to meet you even before you attend. That way, you will know someone before you come!
Also, we could pick you up Sunday morning, meet you for breakfast or coffee before church or at least meet you in the parking lot to show you where to go and what to do.
Stop by a church on a weekday and ask someone to show you around so the place doesn't feel so foreign when you come on Sunday.
Just show up. Check out when the worship service starts. Many churches have greeters to help you as you enter the sanctuary. If you'd like, ask them to introduce you to someone you can sit with.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10. Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit. And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.” Mark 9:17 – 18
For the last few weeks we have focused on demons and their activities. We will conclude this thought today by talking about recognizing demon activity. We must never forget that demons entice people to sin. Please understand, it is not a sin to be tempted. The sin comes in when we yield to that temptation.
“But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed”. (James 1:14). The enemy of our soul, Satan, uses demon spirits to control our lives by making sin attractive. Please know at the outset all sins do not appear ugly, however, sin will carry you farther than you intended to go, keep you longer than you wanted to stay and cost you more than you wanted to pay. Satan desires to control our lives and eventually destroy us.
Note another activity of demons; they deceive, please read (1 Timothy 4:1). Please know this, a doctrine of demons is any teaching that presents another way to get to God. “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).
Another activity of demons is this, they love to try and torment God’s children. We note in God’s word in (Matthew 17:18) a demon would cast a young boy into the fire. Don’t ever forget demons are real; no doubt many things that people are going through are the result of demon activity. The physic, soothsayers, or any other mediums can’t set you free, only through Jesus Christ can we be made free, (John 8:32, 36). I challenge you in closing if you’re playing games with God and just going through the motions you’re going to lose. Remember Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Praise God I’m free.
