Psalms 1:1-3. Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

All my life, I wanted to be a head football coach of an NFL team more than anything else. At times, I even wanted it more than God or my family. I bought right into the world’s game plan. waynedurden.jpgI have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me (Psalm 119:30).  And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” ( John 3:19-21).

Light, I love the light, I don’t like dark rooms. The light shows us the way. It let’s us know ahead of time any obstacles that would be in the way. Let’s see what the laver says about the light of the gospel.

In the book of James we discover that God’s Word is like a mirror. When we read the word we’ll discover who we really are. Notice James 1:22-25, it says, be doers of the word and not hearers only, these scriptures also challenge us to look into the perfect law of liberty. The basin of the bronze laver acted like a mirror to those who came to wash their hands (Exodus 30:20).

When you washed before going to make a sacrifice that would atone for your sins, you would first look into the laver and see your worst enemy: who was yourself. Mirrors do not lie. You are the reason that an animal’s life was going to be shed for sin. Praise God that His Word is a mirror to our souls. The Holy Ghost inspired the writings and truth of this word and oh that we will let it shine in our lives. "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed (John 8:32 & 36.).
