Monroe Church of God

I've been thinking I would like to go to church, but I don't know anyone.

I don't know what to do, where to go, what to expect when I get there.  It's hard and it feels awkward to do anything for the first few times. Here are some suggestions:

Have you noticed a church near you or one you drive by often? If not, check the phone book. Call the church office. You should find a friendly voice to talk to. (Some churches don't have a full-time staff. If no ones there leave a message so they can get back to you.)

If you'd like, ask to be matched up with someone in the church, any of us would love to meet you even before you attend. That way, you will know someone before you come!

Also, we could pick you up Sunday morning, meet you for breakfast or coffee before church or at least meet you in the parking lot to show you where to go and what to do.

Stop by a church on a weekday and ask someone to show you around so the place doesn't feel so foreign when you come on Sunday.

Just show up. Check out when the worship service starts. Many churches have greeters to help you as you enter the sanctuary. If you'd like, ask them to introduce you to someone you can sit with.

Ken CourtneyDriving home recently my thoughts turned toward an old barn that was showing its years. Located in the center of a large pasture, it wasn’t much to look at. It was obvious that a lack of paint and repairs over the years had caused this once appealing and functional building to be of little value to the current owner.

As I began to think about the history of this building several questions came to mind. Who decided to build this barn? WhoOld Barn owned the land? Who designed the building plans? Who created the building materials? Who supplied the materials? Who actually constructed the barn? Needless to say there are many questions that one could ask about the creation of a building, regardless of its size or functionality.

After driving past this old barn and drawing closer to home, this thought came to mind; Even though I don’t have an answer to any of my questions, there is still a barn in that pasture. That barn did not just show up in that field one day. I know at some point in time, someone decided to build a barn and came up with a plan, bought the land, and took care of all the details necessary for the completion of the building.

When I hear someone say “I don’t believe in God”, I have to marvel at what they “must” believe in; that nobody created something out of nothing. How can that be? An often quoted humorist once said “If you see a turtle sitting on a fence post, you know it didn’t get there by itself”. You see I don’t have an answer for all my questions about God or this wondrous universe that we live in, but never-the-less it does exists.

The holy Bible tells us about God, and identifies Him as designer and creator of the universe we live in. In the first chapter of John it is recorded that The Word (Jesus Christ) was in the beginning. The Word was with God. The Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. He made all things. Nothing was made without Him making it. Life began by Him. His Life was the Light for men. The Light shines in the darkness. The darkness has never been able to put out the Light. So to the non-believer the challenge is this, explain how something as simple as the old barn could comeTetons into being without a designer and builder. If there doesn't seem to be a reasonable explanation for the barn, how could something as extraordinary as the universe come into being without a designer and builder?

The Bible book of John records the life and times of Jesus Christ. Some people question if Jesus really was the Son of God. Questions are good because in the pursuit of answers we can find truth. History records that Jesus was put to death at the hands of the Roman government If Jesus had remained in the grave there would be no “Christian” faith. However, the resurrection of Jesus from death proved the accuracy and certainty of his origin, life, and message.

There will always be questions that remain unanswered. Many of them will not have eternal consequences but some will. If the Bible is wrong then Christians have nothing to loose, however if the Bible is right, then those that ignore its message loose everything.
